Each Mandarin Oriental Hotel has its own, unique fan; an element that reflects the Group’s oriental origins while linking it with each individual hotel’s local culture. Renowned Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola, responsible for the interiors of Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona, was commissioned to design the hotel’s fan.

Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona’s fan is a unique work of art that marries the elegance of Asian fans with the expressiveness of the traditional Spanish fan and mirrors the general spirit of the hotel’s decor and architecture. The fan was designed with an intricate perforated pattern, referencing design elements found on a much larger scale throughout the hotel such as the two bronze-coloured aluminium latticework partitions at the hotel’s entrance as well as the impressive grid suspended over Blanc restaurant and lounge. The beautiful meshwork comprised of different superimposed layers creates a three-dimensional effect.

Patricia Urquiola’s original and unique fan for Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona is a large piece of gold-coloured metal which can be found presiding over the hotel’s Banker’s Bar.
