Fine Dining Restaurants

Fine Dining Restaurants
Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi offers more variety of fine dining options than any other resort in the area, from relaxed meals, to the finest Asian and European culinary experiences in architecturally unique buildings, all of which reflect the glorious opulence of the past 700 years of Lanna history.

With a team of highly-experienced Thai and foreign chefs on hand, Mandarin Oriental’s unquestionable high levels of culinary excellence are duly assured.

Where possible, Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi uses predominantly organic ingredients produced locally in the nurseries at The Royal Project, near Chiang Rai, further North of Chiang Mai.

Le Grand Lanna - Classic Thai and Northern Thai
Hidden behind sweeping roofs and centuries-old rain and flame trees, Le Grand Lanna’s raised wooden pavilions filled with precious Lanna artefacts provide a sublime dining venue to sample the best in classic Thai and Northern Lanna-style dishes. Le Grand Lanna’s diverse menu bridges the cultural divide between Thailand’s north and south; past and present.

Le Grand Lanna’s charm lies in its delightfully bucolic ambience; the cluster of low wooden buildings take the form of a typical northern Thai home. Its numerous dining areas lie along a chan, or raised wooden platform, where guests may choose from an al fresco terrace cooled by mist-spraying fans, or enclosed air-conditioned salons, all linked by broad teak walkways.

Like most affluent Lanna homes, these elegant structures look down over a mature tropical garden. At night, musicians dressed in lavish period costumes fill the evening air with Thai classical music.

Fujian - Cantonese and Contemporary Chinese
Located at the end of The Kad Dhara Shopping Village, stands Fujian, an imposing two-storey mansion built in typically Sino-Portuguese style dating back to the mid- 19th century; its interior is graced with priceless objets d’art. An elegant central staircase leads to an upstairs dining room and tiled veranda where cool breezes fill the room.

Fujian is Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi’s Chinese restaurant. At its head is Chef Andy Leong, whose legendary dim sum are served each day at lunch in customary bamboo steamers on large, circular tables. In the evening, the atmosphere of Fujian seamlessly moves from that of a bygone era to take on a more upbeat, contemporary mood.

In lieu of the Chinese ‘family style’ meal, portions are served individually on the finest bone china. A Degustation Supper Menu offers miniature portions of the menu’s signature dishes; those who love their wines can select from a cellar containing over 80 different labels.

Though the restaurant takes its name from the prosperous Chinese province on China’s eastern seaboard, the menu offers a plethora of Chinese regional cooking styles, not omitting classic dishes such as Beijing Duck, or the more spicy cuisine from Sichuan province.

Since Fujian province is famous for its black tea, the best of which is grown on the province’s northern hill ranges around Wuyi Mountain, Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi prides itself on stocking one of the finest tea collections in Thailand. Diners at Fujian are invited to enjoy a ‘tea tasting’ during their meal, a unique way to sample some of the collection’s more unusual brews.

Akaligo - Italian & Mediterranean
Named in Sanskrit, “Akaligo” means timeless; the sensation we would like to engrave on our guests’ dining experience. This contemporary restaurant has a light and airy feel, mixed with a sense of grandeur as it is filled with large windows overlooking our landscaped tropical gardens.  The balcony tables enjoy the stunning background of our Colonial suites during breakfast hour, while dinner under the shower of the stars and the moon lit sky is irresistible.

The curved wooden ceiling wasonstructed using the same techniques used to construct the helms of ships, referencing the sea culture that belongs to the coast of the Mediterranean. An elaborately carved miniature pagoda in Thai traditional design that celebrates the Lanna culture does not contradict the atmosphere, on the contrary simply enhances the ambience.

Mediterranean and Italian dishes, fresh from our renowned chef’s recipe are served daily for dinner with a grand finale of Dhara Dhevi’s dessert buffet.  Akaligo is also renowned for its Sunday Brunch and the array of exotic menus that will tantalise every one’s taste buds.

Farang Ses - Fine French cuisine
Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi’s French restaurant is located in a magnificent Lanna-style building set on a platform overlooking paddy fields and tall coconut palms. Its vaulted wooden interior is resplendent with sculpted chandeliers and enormous teak pillars clad in sheets of beaten copper relief.

The restaurant serves some of the finest French cuisine in Thailand, dishes that exude the heady aromas of the French countryside but remain light, avoiding rich butter sauces.

The menu’s main features are inimitable French delicacies: foie gras, Brittany lobster, turbot and pigeon; these succulent flavours are combined with aromatic herbs and Mediterranean-inspired accompaniments such as polenta or a crisp frisee salad.

Not only is the food unique, all the tableware and unusual steel-stemmed glassware with its art deco detailing have been chosen with great care to compliment the gracious elegance of this temple to French haute cuisine.
