Fine Dining Restaurants At Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi, Chiang Mai

Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi, Chiang Mai offers more variety in fine dining options than any other resort in the area, from casual meals to the finest Asian and European culinary experiences in architecturally unique buildings, all of which reflect the glorious opulence of the past 700 years of Lanna history.

With a team of highly-experienced Thai and foreign chefs on hand, Mandarin Oriental’s unquestionably high levels of culinary excellence are assured.

Where possible, Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi, Chiang Mai uses predominantly organic ingredients produced locally in nurseries at The Royal Project near Chiang Rai, north of Chiang Mai.

Le Grand Lanna - Classic Thai and Northern Thai
Hidden amid sweeping roofs and centuries-old rain and flame trees, Le Grand Lanna’s raised wooden pavilions filled with precious Lanna artefacts provide a sublime dining venue in which to sample the best in classic Thai and northern Lanna-style dishes. Le Grand Lanna’s diverse menu bridges the cultural divide between Thailand’s north and south, past and present.

Le Grand Lanna’s charm lies in its delightfully bucolic ambience; the cluster of low wooden buildings take the form of a typical northern Thai home. Its numerous dining areas lie along a chan, or raised wooden platform, where guests can choose from an al fresco terrace cooled by mist-spraying fans, or enclosed air-conditioned salons, all linked by broad teak walkways.

Like most affluent Lanna homes, these elegant structures look out over a mature tropical garden. At night, musicians dressed in lavish period costumes enchant diners with Thai classical music.

Fujian - Cantonese and Contemporary Chinese
Located in Kad Dhara Shopping Village, Fujian is an impressive two-storey mansion built in typically Sino-Portuguese style dating back to the mid-19th Century. Its interior is graced with priceless objets d’art and an elegant central staircase leads to an upstairs dining room and tiled veranda with cool breezes to enjoy.

Heading up Fujian’s culinary team is Chef Andy Leong, whose legendary dim sum are served each day at lunch in customary bamboo steamers on large, circular tables. In the evening, the Chinese restaurant’s atmosphere transforms effortlessly from that of a bygone era to a more upbeat, contemporary mood.

In lieu of the Chinese ‘family style’ meal, portions are served individually on the finest bone china. A Degustation Supper Menu offers miniature portions of the menu’s signature dishes. Those who love their wines can choose from a cellar containing over 80 different labels.

Though Fujian takes its name from the prosperous Chinese eastern seaboard province, the menu offers a plethora of Chinese regional cooking styles, including classic dishes such as Beijing Duck and the more spicy cuisine from Sichuan province.

Since Fujian province is famous for its black tea, the best of which is grown in the northern hill ranges around Wuyi Mountain, Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi, Chiang Mai prides itself on stocking one of the finest tea collections in Thailand. Diners at Fujian are invited to enjoy a ‘tea tasting’ during their meal, a unique way to sample some of the collection’s more unusual brews.

Akaligo - Italian & Mediterranean
In Sanskrit, ‘Akaligo’ means timeless and this is the very sensation the restaurant strives to incorporate in guests’ dining experience. The atmosphere is a light and airy feel, mixed with a sense of grandeur from the large windows overlooking the resort’s landscaped tropical gardens. The outdoor terrace seating enjoys the stunning background of the colonial suites during breakfast and an enchanting Chiang Mai evening sky at dinner.

The curved wooden ceiling was constructed through the same technique as that used to build ship helms, a reference to the sea culture of the Mediterranean coast. An elaborately carved miniature pagoda in traditional Thai design celebrates Lanna culture and enhances the restaurant’s ambience.

Mediterranean and Italian dishes from our renowned chef’s ‘recipe book’ are served daily for dinner, complemented with a grand Dhara Dhevi dessert buffet.  Also renowned for its Sunday Brunch, Akaligo offers an array of exotic dishes sure to tantalise everyone’s taste buds.

Farang Ses - Fine French cuisine
Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi, Chiang Mai’s renowned French restaurant is located in a magnificent Lanna style building overlooking paddy fields and tall coconut palms. Its vaulted wooden interior is resplendent with sculpted chandeliers and enormous teak pillars clad in sheets of beaten copper relief.

The restaurant serves some of the finest French cuisine in Thailand, dishes that exude the heady aromas of the French countryside but remain light, avoiding rich butter sauces.

The menu’s main features are the inimitable French delicacies foie gras, Brittany lobster, turbot and pigeon. These succulent flavours are combined with aromatic herbs and Mediterranean-inspired accompaniments such as polenta or crisp frisee salad.

Along with its unique cuisine, Farang Ses’ tableware and unusual steel-stemmed glassware with art deco detailing were chosen with great care to perfectly complement the gracious elegance of this temple to French haute cuisine.
