Villas And Suites

Villas And Suites

Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi provides some of the world’s most spacious accommodation ranging from 60 square metres to 644 square metres.

Following the main conceptual theme of the property, all the accommodation takes its inspiration from Northern Thailand’s Lanna period (AD 1259-1558), when architectural lyricism was at its height. Many designs have been faithfully replicated from extant heritage buildings.

Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi’s 60-acres offer ample space for the resort’s 123 luxurious teak wood villas and suites perched amongst vast landscaped gardens and emerald rice paddies.

All the interiors have been sympathetically crafted by local artisans in keeping with traditional Lanna architectural styles. They feature extensive museum-quality artefacts, sumptuous Thai silks mixed with local hill-tribe textiles and magnificent original artworks. The exquisitely designed interiors seamlessly blend age-old tradition with modern convenience and Mandarin Oriental’s signature guest-centric technology. These essential elements contribute to an overall atmosphere of unparalleled luxury and serenity.

A selection of expansive Colonial Suites and Signature Residences provide elegant private retreats with their own exclusive facilities such as a personal spa, drawing room or piano lounge. The magnificent Royal Residence includes a secluded Lanna- style palace complex with three private swimming pools, Jacuzzis and water gardens - luxuries that no other resort in the region can offer.

Villas
The design of the villas has been influenced by traditional high-gabled Thai-style homes which for centuries, have made extensive use of the region’s polished teak wood.

While the interiors have been luxuriously converted into spacious, modern residences, the exteriors maintain their uniquely Lanna-style with many cultural references from the region.

Villas are mostly built on two floors, with the exception of the Suan Pak (Vegetable Garden) villas which are on one level. Generous living rooms, with a downstairs bathroom are usually positioned on the ground floor while the spacious bedrooms, bathrooms and lounge areas are found upstairs.

Standard features in all villas include a whirlpool tub, separate rain shower, spacious outdoor deck and Thai sala (pavilion) overlooking tropical gardens or rice fields. Suan Pak (Vegetable Garden) villas have the added distinction of being clustered around a delightful private Thai cottage garden through which runs a small brook that helps water a large vegetable patch.

Colonial Suites
The Colonial Suites are situated in an independent, two-storey building located in the north-west area of the resort with tropical garden views overlooking a large swimming pool, a short walk from the main lobby and Akaligo restaurant. The ground floor suites enjoy direct access onto lush gardens, while the first floor suites boast spacious balconies with extensive views overlooking the pool and verdant landscape.

The style of these suites draws on the architectural grandeur of Asia’s 19th century, blending design elements from heritage hotels and palaces all around Asia and the sub-continent. Each has a bedroom and adjoining living rooms, plus a large private veranda for enjoying Chiang Mai’s temperate climate. The five-metre high ceilings enhance the sense of space, and the sumptuous silk furnishings, antiques and original artworks give all the suites an unparalleled palatial splendour.

Signature Residence

The Penthouse Residence

The palatial Penthouse residence offers some of the resort’s most lavish accommodation. Located on the third floor of the Dheva Spa Residence, the Penthouse combines unparalleled luxury with an air of colonial elegance, incorporating top-notch facilities for a range of healing in-suite therapies. The Suite’s stunning handcrafted details are enhanced by five-metre high ceilings, plush European furnishings and polished teakwood floors. Rare lacquer and silver antiques, Persian carpets and a grand piano feature prominently, heightening the suite’s sense of old-world opulence.

The Suite boasts private lift access, a luxuriously appointed drawing room, dining room, pantry and bedroom as well as an enormous wardrobe and make-up area and its own built-in spa treatment facilities. Advanced technological features such as Bose sound system, retractable large-screen Plasma TV and high-speed wireless internet access blend seamlessly with the Suite’s luxurious surroundings.

Unique details such as stained-glass ‘Rose’ windows and teakwood carving capture the glamour and flair of British colonial architecture while the Suite’s peacock-patterned glass mosaics were inspired by the sumptuousness of India’s Maharajas palaces. The Spa Penthouse’s spacious outdoor terrace affords breathtaking, panoramic views over the resort providing the perfect venue for enjoying secluded breakfasts, evening cocktails and intimate candlelit dinners.

The Royal Residence
A stay in the Royal Residence is the ultimate experience offering guests a vast, private retreat compound at the heart of the resort. Situated behind high walls, the Royal Residence is completely self-contained with six private Lanna-style pavilions featuring three king size beds and three twin bedrooms, as well as a number of sitting and dining rooms, open-air salas and even a lounge with a grand piano and bar.

The Royal Residence is the ideal choice for discerning travellers, celebrities and visiting royalty who wish to preserve their privacy while they indulge in style. It is also perfect for groups of friends travelling together or extended families. In addition to its individual sleeping pavilions, the Royal Residence boasts three luxurious swimming pools, private Jacuzzis and saunas, all set right on the edge of the compound’s own free-form lotus pond between a number of towering Rain Trees and fragrant Frangipanis.

The design of the Royal Residence was inspired by the mythical Himmaphan Forest of Buddhist legend, a heavenly realm of lush flowers and foliage inhabited by celestial beings and otherworldly animals. Each of the Royal Residence’s elegant teak pavilions is intricately crafted, showcasing the woodcarving traditions that northern Thailand is famous for. Interiors and exteriors are decorated with apsaras, elephants, Kinnarees, exotic birds, fish and flowers carved in wood and plaster throughout.

Brick walkways connect each pavilion through their poolside gardens and an enormous wall of life-size elephant sculptures drawn from Chiang Mai’s oldest temple, Wat Chiang Man, provides a dramatic focal point for the entire complex. Each pavilion is unique in style and design, inspired by a mix of northern Thai palace and Royal Lanna architecture. Colour schemes vary from one pavilion to the next, ranging from rich red and gold to cream and pink to black and silver. High ceilings and handcrafted details abound while sumptuous silks, plush furnishings, and a selection of rare antiques contribute to the Royal Residence’s atmosphere of lavish luxury.

A large dining room with floor to ceiling windows and pantry allow guests to entertain family and friends in the unique setting of their own ancient Lanna palace.
