Did You Know?

The Excelsior is the largest hotel on Hong Kong Island featuring 886 rooms and suites.

The hotel was developed on the original “godown” of Jardine Matheson directly behind the famous Noon Day Gun. This historic site was the first plot of land in Hong Kong to be sold by public auction in 1841 when Hong Kong officially became a British Colony. Today it is still registered as Lot. No 1. A complimentary daily tour of Hong Kong’s famous Noon Day Gun facilitated by the Concierge.

Adjacent to the Noon Day Gun is Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter, which is a refuge for all kinds of vessels in the event of a typhoon (the season falls between May and September). Here, Hong Kong’s boat people, in their traditional Chinese sampans, can be seen ferrying passengers and goods.

A step away from the hotel’s entrance lies a proverbial “Aladdin’s Cave” of shops. Apart from the World Trade Centre and Sogo Department Store, the hotel is also in direct proximity to local designer boutiques. For international names, Times Square and Lee Gardens shopping malls house over one hundred well-known brands.

In addition to the major strategic advantages of its prime location with easy access to the MTR (Mass Transit Railway), bus, tram and taxi connections, The Excelsior enjoys particularly excellent “fung shui”, with a perfect balance of yin and yang elements.

TOTT’s - Talk Of The Town, The Excelsior’s rooftop restaurant enjoys spectacular 270-degree harbour views, is a vibrant restaurant and bar that features exciting dining, live entertainment and a delectable Sunday brunch, all within the surroundings of an upbeat and stylish atmosphere.

A legend in itself, Dickens Bar has been drawing a loyal following since the opening of the hotel. A curry buffet lunch, traditional English pub favourites and a wide range of draft beers makes this the ultimate watering hole.

The filming of the late Peter Seller’s motion picture, “Revenge of the Pink Panther” took place at The Excelsior in 1978. A revolving entrance door was especially installed for the filming.

Recognised as “One of the five most stylish hotels in Hong Kong” by Condé Nast Traveller.
