The Ultimate Private Dining Room - The 'Krug Room' at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong

The House of Krug has joined forces with the legendary Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong to create one of the world’s most elite private dining rooms – The Krug Room at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong.

Krug is the champagne of individuals, of those who dare to be different, and The Krug Room is a similarly bold and unique dining event.

One of Hong Kong’s best kept dining secrets, The Krug Room has long been a restaurant for ‘those in the know’ and is tucked away in the heart of the hotel’s kitchens. It was created so that guests can discover Executive Chef Uwe Opocensky’s brilliantly creative menus, partnered with the world’s most prestigious champagne in a sophisticated dining space.

One of the finest dining experiences in the city, an evening at the Krug Room is unlike any other restaurant experience. Seating up to 12 guests around a communal table, the room itself overlooks the hotel’s kitchens where diners can watch their meal being prepared. Chef Opocensky himself will present each course, which he has tailor-made for that evening. To accompany the meal, The Krug Room has the largest collections of Krug champagnes outside of France to choose from.

About the Krug Room
Hidden in a secret location in the main kitchen of Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, the Krug Room seductively reveals the world of Krug Champagne and the culinary delights of Mandarin Oriental in an intimate dining environment. The Krug Room has been specially styled by eminent Hong Kong designers Marc and Chantal to create a space which is both elegant and surprising, and which recalls elements of the Krug cellars in Reims, France. Guests of the Krug Room walk across floors made from the same oak as the traditional barrels in which Krug, unique among champagnes, is still fermented. Menus and messages from the kitchen are hand-written on slate walls in a chalk similar to that of the chalk deposits which the Krug cellars in Reims are carved out from, while the custom-designed chairs have been fashioned to resemble the shadows cast by a full wine glass.

The ultimate dining experience…

Recognised by food critics as one of the leading chefs in Hong Kong, The Krug Room is Uwe Opocensky’s personal theatre where he is free to present his stunning culinary creations in an equally exceptional environment.

Inspired by his experience of working for some of the world’s greatest chefs – Alain Ducasse, Anton Mosimann and most notably Ferran Adrià – Opocensky delivers the unexpected with a classical underpinning.  He describes his cuisine as “progressive gastronomy”, which reveals the influence of his training at El Bulli in Spain where he learned the basics of molecular gastronomy from the acknowledged master of the genre.  Intelligent, thought-provoking and always creative, his food evinces an almost whimsical approach yet nonetheless remains rooted in classical cooking traditions.

Chef Opocensky will tailor-make each tasting menu, designing culinary experiences to complement guest preferences as well as the diverse personalities of each of the different Krug varieties. The menus evoke intrigue, with tantalising descriptions such as Golden Caviar, Black Cod and Rain.

About The House of Krug
Since 1843, six generations of the Krug family have cultivated the markedly individual character of their exceptional champagne, showing that same single-mindedness and sense of purpose with which the founder, Johann-Joseph Krug, set out alone in pursuit of his objective of creating a champagne with a taste all its own. Krug is an encounter, an experience, a revelation – and a range of five extraordinary champagnes: Krug Grande Cuvée, Krug Rosé, Krug Vintage, Krug Collection and Krug Clos du Mesnil.
