Diners at Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur will no doubt be enticed by the diverse selection of cuisine available in each of the hotel’s signature dining venues. Located within the city centre and next to the magnificent 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers - the hotel has added an innovative twist to its restaurants, providing a cuisine which moves away from traditional hotel fare to one that has both International and local appeal.
A melange of diverse, exotic flavours is complemented by each restaurant’s unique decor. The design has ensured that maximum visibility has been achieved from inside and outside the hotel, adding to its aesthetic appeal.
The hotel’s all-day dining café located on the ground floor re-opened recently as Mosaic. Designed by Internationally-renowned Spin Design Studio from Japan, its concept illustrates Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s “Sense of Place", where local history, culture and sensibility are incorporated into the design. Lavish buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are served Mosaic, ranging from local specialities to International favourites at interactive kitchens within the restaurant.
Adjacent to Mosaic is Lounge on the Park which serves the most luscious afternoon tea and perfect for an afternoon tête-à-tête or visit The Mandarin Cake Shop for freshly baked cakes, breads, macarons and chocolates.
The outlet is open daily, offering buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner with a la carte dishes served all day long.
On the first floor of the hotel is the Cantonese restaurant Lai Po Heen, indicative of the wealthy homes of respected tycoons in turn-of-the-century Malaya. The restaurant’s architecture is reminiscent of Shanghai’s hey day, furnished with antique furniture from Malacca.
Lai Po Heen serves traditional Cantonese cuisine, specialising in classic Cantonese delicacies and a wide array of dim sum. The highlight of the restaurant is an open Chinese kitchen where flaming woks and a hierarchy of Chinese chefs set the scene. Lai Po Heen is open daily for lunch from 12:00pm to 2:30pm, while dinner is served from 7:00pm to 10:30pm. On Sunday and public holidays, the restaurant is open for lunch from 10:30am and 2:30pm.
For a breathtaking view of the city’s skyline, Cascade Restaurant and Bar is the place to be. An alfresco poolside dining amidst the tropical gardens Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) park, Cascade offers light, refreshing Mediterranean fare and fresh juices. Cascade Restaurant & Bar is situated on the third floor adjacent to the unique edgeless swimming pool. The outlet opens daily from 10:00am to 10:00pm.
With its impeccably stylish design, Sultan Lounge provides guests a feel of being in an opulent Arabian tent. Enjoy conversations over drinks in our beautifully tented booths running the length of the lounge.
Food is minimalist in Sultan Lounge but restricted to only the best titbits as well as impressive and classical canapés items such as “Tsarskaya #”3-French freshly shucked oysters, “Tzar Nicoulai, Osetra”-USA caviar or France’s “Aquitaine Sevruga” to name a few. The lounge concentrates on offering an extensive range of top label champagnes, wines, liquors and beverages served in an unpretentious manor. Sultan Lounge is opened from Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10:00pm until 3:00am.
Casbah, which literally translates to “Castle or Palace”, complements the adjacent Sultan Lounge. Casbah features modern interpretations of a stylish and distinctive lounge concept steeped in the traditions of the Orient. Its opulent décor, comfortable sofas and soft mood lighting provides an ideal place to enjoy an informal soiree, to socialise and to escape from the frenzy of urban lift. Casbah serves an extensive menu featuring mezze and tapas from the Eastern Mediterranean, North Africa and Spain. Designed by award winning interior design company, the SWOT Design Group, this opulent and comfortable venue is reminiscent of a modern Arabian lounge. Casbah is the perfect place in which to relax with friends. Guests will be able to enjoy inventive tapas served in a fresh and contemporary style. Upbeat DJ lounge music with exotic Arabian sounds and rhythms adds to chill out atmosphere until the early hours. Casbah complements the chic and exotic Sultan Lounge perfectly allowing patrons to move freely between both venues. Casbah is located at Lobby Level and opens daily from 6pm to 3am.
The exclusive and contemporary modern grill restaurant, Mandarin Grill & MO Bar is presided over by Chef de Cuisine, Reto Weber, and aims to satisfy both local and international food connoisseurs with a range of classic dishes with a modern twist. The elegant interior complete with inbuilt fireplace and glass wine cellar, exudes comfort and style, while the menu includes dishes such as ‘River Prawn Cocktail’, ‘Home Made Lobster Ravioli’, and ‘Smoked Pepper Sauce Glazed Beef Cheek’ among others. The wine list carries an extensive selection of champagne and wines from both the old and new world.
Opening alongside the Mandarin Grill is MO Bar -- a perfect place for drinks at the end of a long working day. With a classic interior blending oak and dark wood, the cosy atmosphere is enhanced by the remarkable concave ceiling, which has been designed to improve the room’s acoustics. Guests can relax and enjoy a range of innovative and delicious snacks served complimentary with all drinks.
MO Bar also provides one of the best and largest selections of single malt whiskies in Kuala Lumpur, and is the ideal venue to enjoy good conversation and live music. Mandarin Grill & MO Bar is situated at the lobby level next to the hotel’s lounge. Mandarin Grill opens daily from 12:00pm to 2:30pm for lunch and 7:00pm to 10:30pm for dinner, whereas MO Bar is open from 12:00pm to 12:00am daily.
For a modern take on intricate traditional Japanese fare, the stylish Wasabi Bistro features a nouvelle Californian-Japanese inspired cuisine with an emphasis on fresh seafood in a trendy bistro setting. Located on the lower lobby level, this quaint, intimate hideaway imbibes a sense of calm with its light, warm hued walls softly illuminated by ambient lighting and decorated with exquisite Japanese art and artefacts.
Popular unique selections featured at Wasabi Bistro include Rainbow Roll, Philadelphia Roll, Spicy Calamari Salad and Hawaiian Poke Sampler. Wasabi Bistro is open daily for lunch from 12:00noon to 2:30pm and for dinner at 6:00pm to 10:30pm.
