Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas Achieves Leed® Gold Certification

Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas, a sophisticated sanctuary of modern elegance, has achieved LEED®† Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). It is the first hotel in the prestigious Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group to receive a LEED rating, and marks the fifth LEED Gold certification for CityCenter, which was one of the world's largest sustainable developments upon opening December 2009.

Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas’ sustainable highlights:
• Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas will achieve approximately 34% more energy efficiency than required by local and national regulations
• The building’s thermal façade system, using sustainable building materials and incorporating day-lighting controls, produces low emissions and reduces solar heat gain. This system within the structure’s façade accounts for as much as 9 percent of the building’s total energy savings.
• Water conservation technology and programs save an estimated 4.1 million gallons annually, equating to a 45% reduction in portable water use within the building through efficient showers, faucets and waterclosets
• Floor-to-ceiling windows enhance the guest experience by providing abundant natural light and impressive views, while reducing the need for artificial lighting
• Non-toxic paints, sealants, adhesives, carpet and composite wood products have been used in Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas
• Energy Star appliances are installed in each residential unit
• Preferred parking is available for employees and guests using alternative-fuel vehicles such as hybrids and electric cars; preferred parking also will be available for employees that carpool to work

The advanced architecture of Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas’ exterior was designed by the award-winning firm Kohn Pedersen Fox. One of the key aims when designing Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas was to achieve a building design that was as durable and energy efficient as possible within the taxing Las Vegas climate. Based atop a podium made of zinc, titanium, granite and limestone, the building rises vertically into a façade that draws inspiration from traditional Chinese motifs. Interiors have been designed by Adam D. Tihany with the infusion of contemporary elegance and delicate artful Asian influences.
