Brickell Key also known as Claughton Island is a man-made, 44-acre island in Biscayne Bay built in 1943 considered one of Miami’s most prestigious commercial and residential areas.
The hotel’s curved architecture reflects Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s signature fan logo.
Mandarin Oriental, Miami’s unique fan logo depicts a Chinese social gathering with an azul blue background and ivory sticks. (Circa 19th Century).
The painted fan originated in the East, and was transported to Europe along the Oriental trade routes.
A 30 foot Tropical Black Bamboo tree adorns the north side of the hotel’s lobby. Gigantochloa Atrobiolacea, its scientific name, can grow to reach a maximum height of 70 feet. The lively trees originated in South East Asia and can be found abundantly growing 500 degrees south of the equator.
River stones imported from Mexico surround the 30 foot Tropical Black Bamboo tree in the lobby.
A variety of different wood works can be found covering the lobby, from Dark cherry wood to Nigerian Movingue Satinwood.
Among the unique artwork and artifacts found at Mandarin Oriental, Miami are cobalt vases in a variety of vibrant colors, created by artist M. Janke, unique Chinese kimono robes, which embrace the Asian culture and a dynamic three-panel wall painting, “Three Mysteries of the Sea” created by local artist, Fernando Urena Rib.
Azul Bahia, a rare blue marble, imported from Brazil was used to create the M-Bar, Front Office and Concierge reception area countertops.
The hotel’s meeting rooms and Grand Ballroom space are uniquely adorned with rice paper chandeliers and silk wall coverings.
Bold carpet colors such as violet, crimson and gold envelop the corridor and meeting room spaces, depicting Miami’s sultry and sexy attitude.
All of the staircase railings found in the hotel are covered with genuine leather.
To build the hotel’s private beach, it took 260 tons of Lake Welles sand hauled down from Orlando.
Azul’s champagne bar is made of a sleek aluminum to keep drinks cold while guests socialize.
Azul serves one of the few Hennessy Timeless Cognacs produced in 1998. It sells for USD 450 a shot.
The unique glass wine cellar designed specifically for Azul’s extensive liquor selection is estimated at half a million dollars.
Azul offers pashminas in a wide array of colors to keep guests warm and reading glasses in a variety of strengths.
M-Bar, the hotel’s hip martini bar specializes in serving more than 250 different types of martinis divided into clever categories, such as sweet, tangy, naughty but nice and odd-balls.
M-Bar’s most popular martini drink is the Lychetini, a refreshing martini that embraces Asian flavors and offers a cool treat to escape the warm Florida weather.
Café Sambal’s distinctive design features whole seashells embedded in its terrazzo floors.
Café Sambal offers six distinctive Japanese tea flavors specifically created for the restaurant, providing black, green and herbal teas with wonderful fragrances and unique flavors.
Café Sambal serves refreshing Sake Cocktails, which offer a sweet blend of premium Asian sake with tropical fruits like watermelon, mango and lychee to create a cool sensation of flavors with a fine sweet aroma.
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Miami’s most popular signature treatment is the Ayurvedic Holistic Body Treatment, which blends stress-relieving techniques from China, Europe, India and Thailand.
One of the most idyllic experiences at The Spa is the Kundalini Journey where advanced massage techniques are combined with aromatherapy, gemstone and sound therapy and color therapy to help you reach mental and spiritual bliss.
