Mandarin Oriental, New York is located in the Time Warner Center, to date the largest multi-use building development in the history of New York City. The Time Warner Center is 2.8 million square feet and was constructed at a cost of USD 1.7 billion.
The Time Warner Center is located on Columbus Circle, the point from which all distances to and from Manhattan are measured.
The Time Warner Center includes three floors of upscale retail stores, a unique collection of restaurants (including Thomas Keller's restaurant Per Se and Masa Takayama's Masa), Time Warner’s headquarters, CNN studios, luxurious privately owned apartments and the home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Jazz at Lincoln Center is accessible from the fourth floor of the Time Warner Center. It offers 100,000 square feet of performance space including Fredrick Rose Hall and The Allen Room. The year-round program will include more than 450 performances. Hotel guests can access the venue without leaving the Time Warner Center.
David Childs, a world renowned architect from Skidmore Owning & Merrill, was the lead architect for the Time Warner Center. The design of the Time Warner Center is not on the traditional New York City grid; hence, the views from all areas of the hotel are unusually expansive, with vistas extending along the streets and avenues to the horizon beyond.
Every guest room has a view of either Central Park and Manhattan’s East Side or the Hudson River and residential streets of the Upper West Side. Guest suites are located on the corner points of each floor and enjoy 180 degree views.
Dale Chihuly is the creator of the two glass masterpieces installed in the hotel. The first is a chandelier weighing approximately 2,100 pounds, a unique collaboration with Waterford Crystal. It is comprised of 683 hand blown glass and crystal pieces. The second installation, located on the 35th floor, is Mr. Chihuly’s first foray into glass gardens. Entitled Crystal Cranes, the hand blown glass sylphs are installed above a luscious garden of moss and ivy.
The lobby of Mandarin Oriental, New York is located 280 feet above the ground.
Restaurant Asiate features a gleaming floor-to-ceiling glass cabinet which displays 1350 bottles of wine. The ‘wall of wine’ greets diners at the entrance to Asiate.
Each guest room at Mandarin Oriental, New York features state-of-the-art in-room technology. In addition to Cisco IP phones and at least two elegant flat screen televisions, the rooms also provide wireless internet access and extensive entertainment libraries.
The innovative Spa at Mandarin Oriental, New York features a unique 650-square foot treatment room designed for two people. Furnished with dual massage beds, fireplace, private crystal steam room and soaking tub, this room is certainly a first for New York City.
Leading New York fashion designer, Vivienne Tam designed the hotel’s signature fan, a delicate, modern fan displayed in the hotel lobby. The designer embodies Mandarin’s refined Asian flair, and her book China Chic sits on every suite’s coffee table.
Within the Presidential Suite lies one of Mandarin Oriental, New York’s hidden treasures. Here, a 250- year old parchment calligraphy book conveys a story of happiness and good fortune. The carved figures accompanying the Chinese characters are ornaments from furnishings of the same period.
