Recognizing that today’s sophisticated travelers demand and expect state-of-the-art technology from a luxury hotel, Mandarin Oriental, New York has invested significant time, research and an average of USD 27,000 per room to developing an operations system that seamlessly integrates the most advanced technology with an emphasis on guest-personalization and ease of use. In addition to being the first hotel in New York to offer plug-and-play broadcast capabilities, the property’s in-room technology has set new industry standards by featuring services that are as enriched in scope as they are user-friendly to ensure that guests experience cutting-edge, 21st century service.
• Interconnected messaging services allow guests to view text and facsimile messages on their television screens and listen to voicemail messages through the in-room entertainment unit.
• User accessible auxiliary panels custom built into guest room furniture offers easy connectivity between the in-room entertainment system and guests’ mobile technology devices including laptops, digital cameras, video cameras, mp3 players, PDAs and gaming consoles.
• Cisco VoIP (voice-over-IP) telephones provide enhanced capabilities, including display screens with 6 language options based on user profiles and unsurpassed clarity. Signature suites feature Cisco’s top-of-the-line 7970 model featuring 6-line, high-resolution color touch-screen telephones, regular suites are outfitted with Cisco’s 7960 model and standard rooms have the 7940 model.
• In addition to the Cisco telephones, each guest room is equipped with a cordless phone and each room is outfitted with two separate telephone lines.
• In-room conference call capabilities host up to six people at a time. Pre-arranged conference call services can be all-encompassing to include wake-up call requests and pre-ordered In-Room Dining.
• Easy access to weather forecasts from all U.S. zip codes and up-to-the-minute stock information is provided via the touch-screen Cisco telephone.
• Temperature control system automatically “memorizes” guests’ preferred room temperatures, adjusts its settings accordingly and adds the preference to guests’ profiles for return stays.
• Use of M-Tech manufactured HOTSOS – a rapid response operations system – relays requests between colleagues and departments via PDAs. The HOTSOS technology allows for the most effective and timely way to track and fulfill guest needs.
• Home theater-style entertainment units with surround sound speakers in all 248 guest rooms
• LCD televisions in every room & suite ranging from 15-inch (in bathrooms) – 40-inch screens
• 46-inch high definition LCD television in the Taipan Suite living room
• 60-inch flat screen plasma televisions in the Oriental & Presidential Suite media rooms (complete with Bose surround sound system & Creston touch-screen remote controls)
• Entertainment system menu available in six languages – English, Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish.
• 108 television channels, including 10 high definition free-to-guest broadcast channels from major networks including CNN, HBO and ESPN.
• A digital program guide and search feature for easy access to local television channels and broadcast times.
• Extensive digital library of film & television programs, including new releases, Hollywood classics, art films, foreign films, short programs, documentaries and high definition content.
• Library of music and radio programs, including satellite radio service.

• Uninterrupted mobile telephone use throughout the hotel and Time Warner Center, including elevators.
• Fiber-to-waterfront and plug-and-play broadcast capabilities can transmit live television feeds and other broadcasts locally or globally.
• Video conferencing and advanced web streaming allow guests to film keynote conference speakers or capture wedding nuptials for family and friends unable to attend the festivities.
• On-site control room located in Time Warner Center and a production team available to capture, edit, produce, stream and duplicate feed from as many as 16 different cameras in 16 different locations throughout the hotel.
• A Business Center dedicated to offering full IT&T services to assist guests with downloading music to their mp3 players, troubleshooting software and hardware issues on their PCs, and using the in-room entertainment system.
• Ability to set guests’ favorite music, preferred room temperatures and ambient light settings via the personalized television menu and the ability to store the settings for future stays.
• DVR capabilities in all guest rooms, including the ability to archive guests’ favorite TV shows pre- and post-visit for viewing on demand during their stays.
