Gerd Knaust, General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Sanya, which opened in January 2009, has 25 years’ experience in the hotel industry in China, South East Asia and Europe.
Mr. Knaust joined Mandarin Oriental in 1994 as Executive Chef at Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, rising rapidly through the ranks to become the hotel’s Director of Food & Beverage. His first General Manager position was in Indonesia at Mandarin Oriental, Surabaya where he led the team on property for over three years. Prior to his move to Sanya, he was Hotel Manager at The Excelsior hotel in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.
Over the past two years, he has been instrumental in the successful development and launch of Mandarin Oriental, Sanya, the Group’s first property on the mainland.
