Hong Kong, 27 July 2009 – The Mandarin Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong launches a new facial treatment that addresses the issues of aging. Available from 1 August 2009 and priced at HK$1,100, the Spa’s 45-minute Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture session incorporates a Traditional Chinese Medicine consultation with acupuncture therapy specifically targeting wrinkles while providing numerous other benefits.
“Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a safe and painless non-surgical method of reducing the signs of aging,” says Spa Director Lynsey Hughes. “While it does not produce the dramatic results of invasive surgical procedures, it does help the face look younger, healthier and more radiant. It can erase years from the face, with results visible after a course of ten treatments.”
The theory behind facial acupuncture is based on the ancient concept that the body's energy, known as qi in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), diminishes with age, causing a reduction in nourishment and support to the skin. During treatment tiny, hair-fine acupuncture needles, intended to stimulate the flow of qi throughout pathways in the body, are inserted at specific points on the face. This boosts circulation, increases collagen production and plumps fine facial wrinkles. Other expected results include: moisturised skin with increased local circulation of blood and lymph to the face; improved muscle tone and dermal contraction; tightened pores; brightened eyes; and improved hormonal balance to help combat acne and to reduce stress.
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is one of many TCM therapies on the menu at the Mandarin Spa along with Chinese meridian massage, reflexology, acupuncture, cupping, bone setting and moxibustion – all of which are performed by a trained TCM doctor.
