Awarded with two Michelin star, our gourmet restaurant is winning awards and fans with its traditional Catalan cuisine. Directed by Chef Carme Ruscalleda and her son Raül Balam, Moments is one of the finest dining experiences in Barcelona. Having earned six Michelin stars for her restaurants in Spain and Tokyo, Ruscalleda is one of the country’s most renowned chefs.
Decorated in a sophisticated palette of gold and amber, Moments' dining room provides the perfect setting for this award-winning menu. A window into the kitchen allows diners to experience some of the behind-the-scenes excitement.
Carme Ruscalleda’s menu features neo-traditional Catalan cuisine presented in an innovative, modern way. “The quality and freshness of the produce that we use is vital,” says Ruscalleda. “My aim has always been to provide healthy, tasty and well-prepared cuisine.”
Chef Ruscalleda and her culinary team search daily for the season’s finest ingredients to create dishes inspired by the tastes and history of traditional Catalan cuisine.
In addition to our a la carte menu, we also offer guests the chance to enjoy a tasting menu that includes micro-appetizers, a starter, main course, cheese and two desserts. We also offer a three-course Executive Club Lunch from Tuesday to Friday.
Diners also have the opportunity to try Moments' Anti-aging lunchtime menu, devised in conjunction with Carme Ruscalleda and Dr. Manuel Sanchez, head of the Anti-aging Unit Clinic Planas. With the aim of restoring internal balance and slowing down the ageing process, the menu uses delicious, seasonal ingredients known to provide optimum goodness to the body. Moments is the only restaurant in the city to offer anti-aging gastronomy.
Chef Carme Ruscalleda is the most awarded woman in the world with a total of six Michelin stars. Self-taught, she opened her first restaurant Sant Pau in the Catalan seaside town of Sant Pol de Mar together with her husband Toni Balam in 1988. The restaurant has held three Michelin stars since 2005.
Ruscalleda also runs an outpost of her Sant Pau restaurant in Tokyo, which opened in 2004 and has one Michelin star. She has also won several other awards including the National Gastronomy Prize and the Sant Jordi Cross, the highest Catalan honour, which she received in 2004.
Ruscalleda joined Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona in 2009 for its launch. Focusing on her trademark Catalan cuisine, Moments was awarded two Michelin star at the end of 2012.
Raül Balam heads up Moments kitchen and oversees Moments with Ruscalleda. Balam began his career at Sant Pau, where he learnt the secrets to creating perfect Catalan cuisine. From there, he moved to Tokyo to work on the launch of the sister restaurant of Sant Pau, successfully playing a part in bringing Ruscalleda's authentic Catalan cooking to Japan.
Having returned from Tokyo, Balam joined Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona in 2009 for the launch of Moments. Now in charge of the day-to-day running of the restaurant, Balam played a key role in Moments for its second Michelin star.
Situated behind a heavy curtain, our Chef’s Table enjoys an intimate view of behind-the-scenes action through a window into the restaurant’s busy kitchen. With seating for 14, guests will enjoy the cuisine, service and atmosphere of Moments with the added benefit of extra privacy.
