Naturally Better

One of our guiding principles at Mandarin Oriental is ‘Acting with responsibility’, which we strive to achieve through our Naturally Better plan. We’re on a journey to make things Naturally Better for the planet, for communities, and for you. As well as embracing and putting into practice our global sustainability initiatives, such as eliminating single-use plastic since March 2021, here at Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum we also have our own local initiatives to make sure we play our part in making your stay more sustainable

For the Planet

Plastic

We have implemented several measures across our hotel which align with our group-wide policy of eliminating single-use plastic by March 2021. Beyond the removal of plastic bottles, we have eliminated many of the single-use amenities in our Spa. We are also working on replacing all single-use in-room amenities with innovative bamboo-based guest toiletries.

Energy and water

One of our primary sustainability goals is to ensure affordable and clean energy. Located in a sunny destination, the climate allows us to use the bright sun as an energy source. We have installed solar panels throughout the resort to provide hot water for restaurants, both for service and for kitchen operation. In addition, to reduce the loss of cooled air and make the environment greener, plants have been planted on the roofs of all accommodation at Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum.

Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum, and The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum utilize wastewater via a biological treatment system that treats 650 tons of water. The system takes the wastewater from all facilities within the property and transitions it to irrigation quality; all water used for irrigation at the resort and residences is provided from the water tanks of this system, which dramatically reduces the use of natural resources. The resort also utilizes a process of Reverse Osmosis to provide 2,800 tons of clean water daily which is then used to service the guest rooms, public areas, residential apartments and villas, the gardens and all of the resort’s pools.

For communities

Employee training

Our colleagues play a pivotal role in ensuring we deliver on our sustainability goals. By conducting regular waste management training sessions via a local third party in order to keep our employees informed about the use of unnecessary plastics and other environmental detractors, thus increasing awareness on how we can act to preserve our environment.

Sustainable Seafood

One of the most important goals of Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum is to help protect marine life. Highlighting the importance of sustainably caught seafood and the importance of supporting local fishermen we acquire the seafood that has been served at its restaurants from fishermen who are dedicated to the integrity and sustainability of fisheries throughout the Aegean Sea.
