Tips on Tipping

If taking a tuk tuk, taxi or employing some other service you will already have had to negotiate a specific rate so a tip is not usually necessary. Tipping is not an established Thai practice, nonetheless in most international hotels and more upscale restaurants it is quite acceptable. Generally a 10 per cent service charge would be added to the bill in restaurants, but if you particularly appreciated the service then an additional 5 to 10 per cent would be welcomed. For any hotel staff we leave all such decisions entirely to the discretion of our guests but as a guide USD 2 to 5 per staff member at the end of your stay would be well received.
