A concierge’s guide to Miami

I always encourage our guests to visit Maurice A. Ferré Park, overlooking Biscayne Bay. It’s home to the Pérez Art Museum Miami, fronted by hanging gardens, and the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science – don’t miss its incredible aquarium. On Mandarin Oriental, Miami’s doorstep, head for Brickell City Centre, a sleek shopping complex of unusual beauty.

With its waters-edge setting and vistas, La Mar by Gastón Acurio at Mandarin Oriental, Miami is one of this city’s most romantic spots. On Miami Beach, Mila has ocean views, sleek interiors and an inventive, upscale menu (think lobster with truffle ponzu, or Wagyu carpaccio). We’re also lucky to have the Adrienne Arsht Center near the hotel. It always has an amazing line-up of theatre, music and dance.

The weekend brunch at La Mar by Gastón Acurio is pretty hard to beat. First, there’s that view; second, the delicious Peruvian specialities, from spicy tiraditos to tableside chaufa aeroporto (fried rice, Peruvian-style, with pork, pickled vegetables and more). In Midtown, Amara at Paraiso is another great spot for a long alfresco brunch. Its chefs handle local ingredients with Latin American panache. Alternatively, take your pick of Wynwood’s cool-but-casual cafés, then marvel at the street art-scrawled Wynwood Walls, an outdoor gallery like no other.

Speciality roaster Panther Coffee is a local institution, and a great alternative to the bigger chains. It now has outposts across the city, all serving up a flawless caffeine hit, whether it’s a punchy espresso or vanilla-laced nitro cold brew. In Brickell, Puroast Coffee is another name to know, with coffees that will keep you going all day. For exceptional pastries desserts, head to B Bistro + Bakery, or try a slice of creamy key lime pie at Joe’s Stone Crab.
