New Yorkers don’t hang about when they want to get somewhere, and nor should our guests. The best option is usually a taxi; good value and the archetypal cultural insight. But there are alternatives and below you’ll find full details for getting about New York, around the hotel and further afield.

By Taxi
Taxis in New York are generally good value. Apart from ‘change over’ time between 4 and 5 it is also quite easy to find one. When the numbers on the roof of the cab are lit it is available, just hail it with a raised hand. Standard fares can be seen in the Taxi Fares box to the right.
By Underground transportation
New York has an efficient and extensive subway service. For your safety note if you're traveling when it's not rush hour, especially at midday or at night, we suggest you wait in the Off-Hour Waiting Area. A yellow sign, usually suspended from the ceiling, identifies them. When you're in one of these areas, a station agent will be able to see you.
Subway fare is USD 2.00 payable with MetroCard which can be purchased at any subway station or many neighborhood stores.
