From pristine pink sands to pastel houses in carefully preserved colonial towns; Bermuda is a cosmopolitan, exotic and above all well groomed destination.
The ocean is a constant feature of each day’s activity, even if you are simply gazing over the Atlantic azure or dining on that morning’s fresh catch. On the reefs around Bermuda’s 62 miles (100 kilometer) coastline lie over 400 shipwrecks creating a fascinating underwater history of the island, the snorkelling and scuba diving are world class.
The 1609 wreck of the Sea Venture was of particular significance, reputedly the inspiration for Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ but certainly the establishment of Bermuda as a British colony.
The colonial history is evident in sharp Bermuda shorts and impressive naval forts but for most visitors the British influence is probably best enjoyed on the superb golf greens with blue views.
Being a duty free port shopping is hard to resist; although the delight is not so much the price but the pleasant experience. During the day swan through the Louis Vuitton boutique in Hamilton and in the evening enjoy a mini carnival with local artists exhibiting their work. And when you have bought your elegant attire there is nowhere more appreciative of your efforts than the fine restaurants in Bermuda, where everyone still likes to dress in style.
There are museums, aquatic parks and many ways of enjoying the pretty sight of the island from cycling to high speed boat trips. Please look under Things to do and see for our concierge suggestions.
