Residents of Jakarta know that it’s good to be smart about getting around town. That means choosing the right taxi, being prepared for traffic, and opting to enjoy a walk only when the temperatures drop.
Jakarta’s heat and humidity discourage a lot of walking, but when temperatures cool, usually in the later afternoon, visitors can comfortably stroll to major tourists sites, shops, banks and embassies, all of which are within easy reach of the hotel.
The most comfortable and convenient way to get around town is via private car. Our concierge will be happy to arrange for the hire of a chauffeur-driven limousine, available by the day or hour.
Taxis are readily available at the airport. Silver Bird taxis charge IDR 7,500 at flag fall and IDR 4,400 for each additional kilometre. Blue Bird taxi fees start at IDR 6,000, adding IDR 3,000 for each additional kilometre. Expect the fare to range from IDR 150,000 to IDR 200,000 for a trip from the airport.
Although cars can be rented in Jakarta to anyone with a valid international driving license and a passport, doing so is not recommended. Traffic is notoriously heavy in the city centre and finding your way can be difficult. Instead, it is easy to hire a car with a driver by the hour or per day. The DAMRI shuttle buses run at regular intervals between Jakarta International Airport and various locations in the city centre. The closest stop to our hotel is the Gambir Railway Station. Fare per passenger is IDR 20,000.
