Amanda

Amanda Houle was introduced to the Ashtanga method over ten years ago. She originally travelled to Mysore, India to find her guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and subsequently returned there regularly to live, teach and study.  She received first a blessing and then authorization from her Guru and his grandson, Sharath Rangaswamy. Under the guidance of Ken Harakuma, she began teaching in 2003, eventually opening her own school north of Tokyo. Amanda has studied and taught around the world, most recently she has been working with children, beginner yogis and professional athletes in Phoenix, Arizona.  She is currently completing her Yoga Alliance Certification,  has earned Reiki Certificates in the Usui and Karuna Systems and is a Certified Ayruvedic Massage Therapist. She is committed to encouraging more beginners to start their yoga practice in the Mysore style class, where the tradition of passing the teaching from teacher to student on a one-to-one basis has been followed for thousands of years.

Hortario

Hortario experienced his first class of yoga in 1974 whilst at university in his native Chile. A year later, he was living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and had the chance to meet Indra Devi, probably the first westerner to have studied with Krishnamacharya, the grandfather of modern day yoga. Hortario continued his yoga practice and experienced some stints with teaching whilst he pursued a career in the Chilean Foreign Service which took him to the Middle East, Europe US and finally India.

In India, he had the chance to study with other great students of Krishnamacharya. He studied with BKS Iyengar in Pune and Patabhi Jois in Mysore and received authorisation to teach Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga after leaving the foreign service in 2000. He has since dedicated himself fully to the yogic path. He approaches yoga practice as an irreplaceable tool to help us keep perspective of life’s ups and downs and to find inner peace.
