Dinner - The main meal of the day

The etymology of the word ‘dinner’ gave rise to the name of our restaurant Dinner by Heston, and encapsulates Heston’s research into our British culinary history. Originating from the 13th century French the word “disner” (pronounced dee-nay), dinner originally stood for breakfast and developed into the main meal of the day. The rise of social and economic changes, including technical innovations such as gaslight and electricity, allowed for the main meal to be pushed back from being eaten in the middle of the day to much later for those who could afford the technology. To this day, dinner still means the main formal meal of the day, served at either lunch or supper, depending on where you are in the British Isles.

Interior

Designer Adam D. Tihany has taken full advantage of our unique location on Hyde Park and opened the room to the skies embracing the green expanse and refreshing views.

The restaurant is luxuriously spacious giving diners privacy in what is a modern airy interior. Glass walls offer views of the kitchen and its unique spit roast pulley system with intricate cogs, modelled after an original used in the British royal court. Historical craftsmanship is reflected in the natural materials wood, leather and iron which work with witty contemporary details.
