While water sports dominate the Philippine lifestyle, there are more sporting activities available for guests to take part in, many close to the hotel. Manila and the surrounding islands can cater for almost any sport and below are some recommendations.
A single indoor court is available for guests' use about 100 metres from the hotel at One Roxas Triangle. Open from 7am to 10pm, the court fee is just USD 3 with racquet hire costing a further USD 2. Tennis balls are provided on a complimentary basis. Guests desiring tuition on the tennis court can pay a fee of USD 10 per lesson.
We have a magnificent kidney-shaped pool, which provides an ideal setting for guests to relax after a busy day sightseeing or an invigorating workout. Why not lie back and soak up some sun? Complimentary sunblock is available as a cream or lotion to protect your skin. The hotel has a resident lifeguard on active watch, as guests’ safety is paramount.
For those looking to get fit by taking to the water, the hotel offers swimming lessons in the Health Club’s own pool. Suitable for guests aged 7 years and over, lessons can be taken in a group for a fee of USD 40 for ten sessions or one-on-one classes at a cost of USD 100 for ten sessions during the summer season.
Our staff are able to provide a map of suitable routes for those guests who would like to jog during their stay. There are three routes to choose from, varying in distance. One of the most popular courses is the 1.2 km path that runs along the Ayala Triangle. Every Sunday, this area is closed to vehicular traffic between 6am and 10am so that fitness enthusiasts can exercise in an area that is clean and free from pollution.
This is an annual event at the hotel that takes place every June. The route tours through the business district of Makati and is approximately 5 km in length. This activity is open to guests aged over 18 years old and costs USD 5 per person.
While most people will think of beaches, the Philippines is also famed for its numerous trekking destinations. The Mount Pinatubo area offers visitors a first-hand look at the bizarre canyons and lahar formations that resulted after the volcano’s 1991 eruption. Trekking fees are USD 142.
Further afield is the Taal Volcano Island. This requires an 8 – 9-hour drive through scenic countryside to the town of Talisay, Batangas followed by a 30-minute journey on board a motorised outrigger. A local island coordinator will take you up the wide expanse of the black lava landscape and provide a close view of the crater (caldera) from the volcano’s rim. Trekking fee is USD 61.
For guests aged 18 years or over who like to enjoy a game of badminton, there is a court nearby. The Concierge can arrange to book this court on your behalf and it is open from 6am to 10pm. Fees are USD 2 during the day and USD 2.80 during the evening.
At One Roxas Triangle, guests have access to a single squash court if they are aged 18 years or over. The court is open from 6am until 10pm and fees are USD 4 per hour. Please ask the Concierge to arrange your booking from the hotel.
El Nido Resort is the closest beach to the hotel and this tropical island retreat can be reached in an hour and fifteen minutes by light aircraft. Opened in 1982 as a dive campsite it has since gained popularity among non-divers looking to experience the natural attractions and unparalleled hospitality of the resort. From here, you can get quick access to many other islands, take part in a host of activities or simply relax on the white sand beach fringed by coconut trees.
Guests who wish to go snorkelling and marvel at the abundant marine life can do so at Eagle Point Resort, approximately 2.5 hours by car from the hotel. Its proximity to one of the most pristine coral reefs in the world makes this a destination that shouldn’t be missed. If you want to go sailing while in Manila, the hotel Concierge is able to book an excursion to Corregidor – a haven for tourists and locals alike. Round trip ferry transfers, terminal fees, guided island tours, entry to shrines and lunch are included.
There are numerous fishing clubs located in the Philippines and the sport of deep-sea fishing is common in the area. Promotion of marine conservation is also undertaken by the same organisations so that guests can be sure this activity does not have a detrimental effect on the local marine life.
