Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong Partners With Art Basel In Offering A Series Of Artistic Treats

HONG KONG, 14 March 2013 – Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong is pleased to announce that it will be the Official Hotel for Art Basel’s inaugural show in Hong Kong in May. To celebrate this partnership with Art Basel it will be offering guests a series of bespoke services ranging from an exclusive stay, an art-inspired menu in the Michelin-starred Mandarin Grill + Bar, to art-inspired chocolates and cocktails .

Art Basel in Hong Kong will be held from 23 to 26 May 2013 at the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre, just a short taxi ride away from the hotel.  Located in the heart of the city, the iconic Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, has become the hotel of choice for many leading artists and gallery directors when visiting the city for either business or pleasure. 

Art Basel Stay – 20 to 27 May 2013
Guests can enjoy an exclusive Art Basel package including:

ART Menu in the Michelin-starred Mandarin Grill + Bar – 6 to 26 May 2013
Michelin-starred chef Uwe Opocensky will be offering guests of the Mandarin Grill + Bar a special art-inspired three-course lunch and five-course dinner menu.  Creative, inspired and designed to stimulate all the senses, guests will be amazed and delighted as they watch these artistic dishes unfold in front of them. Art Exhibition in the Clipper Lounge – 6 to 26 May 2013
The Clipper Lounge will become home to Hong Kong Eye art exhibition, showcasing over 20 of Hong Kong’s emerging and more established artists.  This show curated by both Johnson Chang and Serenella Ciclitira, will highlight the undeniable talent and potential that Hong Kong has to offer the contemporary art world. The hotel’s highly creative culinary team will also produce a series of art-inspired cakes for afternoon-tea guests to enjoy.

ART Chocolates – 6 to 26 May 2013
The hotel’s talented pastry chefs will also be offering a range of art-inspired chocolates.  These tasty delights will include a range of chocolate pencils, paint brushes and even chocolate artist palettes. Guests making use of the special Art Basel accommodation package, along with those enjoying afternoon tea in the Clipper Lounge, will be able to sample these, and a selection will be on sale at The Mandarin Cake Shop between 6 and 26 May.

Between 6 and 26 May, the fashionable M bar, perched on the 25th floor of the hotel, will offer a series of must-try art-inspired cocktails named after and themed around the various exhibition sectors “Insights”, “Discoveries” and “Encounters”.
