The panoramic view from the top of Mandarin Oriental, Munich offers a clear orientation of the main sights with the twin domed towers of the Church of Our Lady, the famous landmarks, rising proud between numerous ornate spires.

Five minutes walk from our hotel is the impressive Residence, home to the former rulers of Bavaria and a gorgeous synthesis of architecture with Rococo gilded ceilings and a frescoed hall of antiquities. Another five minutes further on is Marienplatz, the central square with its gothic Town Hall and glockenspiel clock. Nearer us is the gourmet market where you can shop and lunch on an abundance of fresh produce and around the corner are the chic shops on Maximilianstrasse.

The area surrounding Munich also offers some beautiful sights; with the exquisitely picturesque Schloss Neuschwanstein that inspired the myriad towers of Disney’s Magic Kingdom and the beautiful Bavarian lake district.

Munich’s most famous event attracts more visitors than any other festival in the world; Oktoberfest is a marvellous show of Lederhosen, Dirndl and local beer.
