Dev Patel began acting professionally at the age of 16, when he was offered a role in the three-time BAFTA award winning British TV series, Skins.

 

His breakthrough into movies came in the box-office smash hit Slumdog Millionaire, which saw him take the lead role aged just 17. The film won an Academy Award and Dev was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe. Dev recently he won a Best Leading Actor BAFTA and was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar for his role in Lion.

 

Away from the big screen, Dev has a black belt in Taekwondo and has competed in the World Championships, winning a bronze medal. He is also a style icon and regular at catwalk shows.

 

Dev is a fan of Mandarin Oriental and the calming environment that always helps him to 'feel at home'. He is a particular fan of the serenity of Mandarin Oriental, Prague which was a monastery in a former life. He says his idea of luxury in a hotel is a "...great bathroom. That's where I learn all my lines and like to wash off the character."

 

Dev’s charity of choice is Pure Earth.
