Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya is the perfect location for your incentive group. We can design an array of bespoke activities for you and your group from an exhilarating zip line adventure to a guided tour of your favorite Mayan ruin. Here we have put together a selection of incredible activities.
One of the New Seven Wonders of the World, Chichen-Itza
This city served once as the political, economic and ceremonial center of the Mayan civilization. The significant Kukulkan pyramid, “El Castillo” the castle, is at the center of the site. Its construction was planned so that during each Vernal Equinox the dying sun would cast a shadow of a serpent (the Mayan God Kukulkan) writhing down the steps of the pyramid.
Tulum
The ruins of Tulum represent the history of the Mayan people and most structures date from the Post-Classic Era between 12000 and 1450. The city was occupied by Mayan people up until the Spanish conquest of the Yucatan peninsula, but was fully abandoned by the end of the 16th century. Today, parts of the Mayan ruins of Tulum have been restored and although local Mayans continue to visit the temples to pray, these acts were abandoned in the late 20th century.
Coba
This journey takes you to the 1,500 year ancestral city of Coba, an archaeological site hidden deep inside the jungle of south-eastern Yucatan Peninsula. The Mayan Ruins of Coba are one of the most important archaeological sites in the area. Built between two lakes you find one of the highest Mayan pyramids, this city was once spread over 80 square kilometers.
Ek Balam
This Mayan ruin is lesser known by visitors yet it has so much history. It’s a little hidden secret in the middle of the jungle. When the Mayan civilization abandoned Ek-Balam, the site became hidden beneath the dense low-lying jungle. As with all the Mayan pyramids, the ruins were discovered when archaeologists noticed a group of hills with trees and brush growing out of them. Carefully excavating the mounds, they uncovered buildings and artifacts which had remained hidden for hundreds of years.
