San Francisco brings to mind several iconic images; the bridge, trolley cars and hills. Whilst it is a charming city to walk around you need a motor to reach the steep heights in comfort. Fortunately the transport options are efficient including of course trolley cars.
Three routes are operated by the cable car, one of which runs through the Financial District up to Nob Hill, two others end at Fisherman’s Wharf. Cable cars are as much a destination as a means of transport. Pay the conductor on boarding, it is possible to buy a one day pass for USD 10 which allows unlimited travel on the day. Give good notice when you are nearing your stop, just shout next stop please.
Muni operates San Francisco’s municipal light rail system, a comprehensive electric rail network across the city. The fare is USD 1.50 and exact change is required or weekly passes are available from various vendors.
Various schedules exist between Alcatraz and Larkspur or Sausalito to San Francisco. Tickets can be purchased on board. Ferries dock at the Ferry Building and Pier 39.
The hotel offers a complimentary “house car” service for the City’s downtown area. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7am to 9am and 5:30pm to 11:30pm. Saturday and Sundays from 5:30pm to 11:30pm. Reservations may be made through the concierge desk.
Taxis are available around town, our doorman will flag one down for you. The fare is USD2.85 for the first one fifth of a mile and 45 cents for each addition fifth and each additional minute stalled in traffic.
Amtrack trains travel between San Francisco and the Bay Area.
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) operates a network across the city. Single fares range according to distance from USD1.25 to USD5.70
The taxi journey between San Francisco International Airport and the hotel will take approximately 35 minutes and the fare will be between USD 27 and USD 37.
BART brings you downtown San Francisco. Montgomery station is in the financial district and is located three blocks away from the hotel. The journey is approximately 30 minutes each way. The one-way fare is USD 4.95

However if you plan to stay within the city it is not recommended to rent a car as the traffic can be heavy and the parking very difficult. An added challenge is the hills, frequently with 30 degree gradients, which for the inexperienced can prove exhausting and hazardous.
