Adam Scott on the world’s best golf courses

Golfing superstar Adam Scott – winner of 29 tournaments including the Masters, and an official Fan of Mandarin Oriental – on the most memorable courses he’s ever played

Tim Hulse is the editor of British Airways’ Business Life magazine.

Liberty National, Jersey City, USA

Adam Scott won the prestigious Barclays Championship at Liberty National in 2013, just a few months after winning the Masters.

Adam says
“The New Jersey sports fans are really enthusiastic, so winning here was a real experience for me. It’s a beautiful course in an incredible setting. The 14th is a par three that’s basically out on the water, with the Statue of Liberty right there in the background with the Manhattan skyline. There are a lot of challenging holes in the world, but when you have a backdrop like that, you can’t forget it.”

Golf Amelkis, Marrakech, Morocco

Scott came close to becoming the first amateur to win a European Tour event when he played at Almelkis at the beginning of his career.

Adam says
“It was a long way to go to play golf as an amateur and it cost my parents a fortune! I was actually really surprised when I got there. I didn’t know what to expect as a 19-year-old Australian going to play golf in Morocco. But it was a beautiful course and I played really well. The 18th hole has a half-island green, which was the big challenge for the week. I finished tied for sixth in the end.”

Augusta National Golf Club, Georgia, USA

Scott won the Masters at Augusta National.

Adam says
“Everyone loves playing the Masters. The attention to detail here is incredible – every blade of grass is so perfectly kept, the flowers scheduled to bloom on the right day. My favourite hole is the 13th, as it’s really challenging. Normally I wouldn’t talk about flowers on a golf course because they’re not really what makes a good hole, but here the backdrop of the azaleas is stunning.”

The Serapong, Singapore

Scott has won the Singapore Open at the Serapong, at Sentosa Golf Club, three times.

Adam says
“This is a great course. It might be the finest conditioned golf course in Asia, certainly of the ones I’ve played. I have a bit of an affinity with it obviously, having played here successfully a few times. Sometimes you just go to a golf course and it really suits your eye. You can stand on every hole and just see your ball down on the fairway or on the green, and I have that feeling when I come here. Even when I’m playing poorly I seem to do well here.”

Doha Golf Club, Doha, Qatar

Scott won the Qatar Masters at Doha Golf Club in 2002 and 2008, breaking the course record in his second win.

Adam says
“Doha is a really good golf course and I’ve had quite a bit of success here. It’s challenging for every part of your game and also quite exposed to the wind, so when it’s blowing, it gets very difficult. The 15th hole is a long, tough, par four dogleg right over water and I remember holing a five iron for an eagle from about 200 yards there the first time I won the Qatar Masters. That really sticks in my memory.”
