At Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, you can have expert hair advice and meet one of the capital’s couture milliners, so that you will step out in style for the summer season. Plus enjoy a unique afternoon tea

With summer in the air and the subsequent arrival of weddings and the British social season – think events such as Royal Ascot, Henley Royal Regatta and Goodwood  – Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London has collaborated with milliner Emily Baxendale and hair expert Jo Hansford to provide an exclusive pampering experience for guests.

First up is a meeting with Baxendale to choose a bespoke Emily-London headpiece (I particularly liked the Portofino – a delicate and elegant pearl design), followed by a consulation with Jo Hansford within the comfort of a guest room at the hotel. Hansford is one of the capital's leading authorities on hair care and colour and she will impart her recommendations for your updo to complement your chosen Emily-London piece.

All six of Baxendale's collaborative designs take inspiration from Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London's iconic location, royal history and renowned restaurants, including The Rosebery Lounge, where her special capsule collection is on show for guests to admire while enjoying the recently launched Hats Off Afternoon Tea.

For this, Executive Chef Pâtissiere Heather Kaniuk has come up with a delectable array of sandwiches, cakes and pastries. On my visit, the mascarpone and lime tart in honour of The Rosebery Lounge was a firm favourite, along with a nectarine and raspberry frangipane cake inspired by the Royal Guards. For any rose lovers among you, the raspberry rose lychee gâteau, which references the Royal Entrance to the hotel from the park, is quite an extraordinary explosion of flavours in the mouth – not one to miss.

Of course, such a treat wouldn't be complete without the accompaniment of a glass of champagne. Hats off to that!
