Healthy dining venues, digital detoxing, cosying up in a cinema… Kick-start your new year in style with a little help from MO

There are several ways to approach January. Some choose to diet like crazy as a way of penance for all those extra helpings of pudding and overindulgence at Christmas – in which case our guide to the best new health-food restaurants in London (coming online later this month) will come in handy. Others begin the year with a list of positive, feel-good resolutions: join a yoga class, experience more culture (Casa Terradas in Barcelona, which is designed by Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch and only recently opened to the public, has me longing to visit) or travel to new, never-before-visited places.
Perhaps the kindest way to ease into this month, though, is with a spot of pampering (regardless of where in the world you live, whether it’s bleak and dark outside or not). With this in mind, in January’s Monthly Insider we’ve picked the best ways to feel rejuvenated in Washington DC; and in MO People, Director of Spa Sara Codner at Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo talks about the importance of occasionally switching off electronic devices for a digital detox. In this vein, Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou is offering a spa staycation package, which includes a relaxing, signature Oriental Essence massage in The Spa (the Couples’ Suite is pictured above) and access to the Oriental Club Lounge.
For guests of Mandarin Oriental hotels who do want to venture out, the concierge can help with last-minute reservations, from seats at the next UEFA Champions League football game to ‘sold-out’ tickets to a Broadway show. There’s also a Movie Moments package at Mandarin Oriental, Singapore where guests receive a pair of cinema tickets and can indulge in pre-film cocktails. Back in London, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park’s Bar Boulud is popping up in Harrods Food Hall (from 9 to 29 January) - just in time for the January sales.
