They say the best things in life are free and now the mysterious 'they' may even be able to prove it. Recent years have seen a plethora of books on Happiness, what it is and how to achieve it. TED talks espousing the very same subject abound. Luckily for us, what frequently crops up and comes pretty close to the top of the list is simply getting out and about for a bracing walk, a hit of fresh air, a touch of watching the world go by. Staying at any one of Mandarin Oriental's fabulous properties gives ample opportunity to do just this. Here are some of our top tips for kick-starting your wellbeing in a destination near you this month.

New York City has the famous Central Park and its elevated urban sister, the High Line. But did you know you can catch the Staten Island Ferry and get up close and personal with the Statue of Liberty while admiring the filmic Big Apple skyline? And sure you can saunter down the Las Vegas Strip, but how about visiting the city's three-acre Botanical Cactus Garden – home to more than 300 species of cacti.

More riverside action can be had in Paris with a wonderful walk along the Berges de Seine, which runs from the Musée d'Orsay to the Pont de l'Alma. There are plenty of opportunities to break up the walk, with a climbing wall and running track offering bursts of alternative exercise. Or contemplation-inducing wooden decks and floating gardens for those who prefer a more sedate stroll. In Milan, take a wander around the canals of the Navigli district, stopping for a pastry at the award-winning Pasticceria Martesana.

Asia is awash with temples to visit. Tokyo's oldest and most iconic is the Buddhist Sensoji Temple or, for something more secular, stop by the Komorebi footbaths to revive your walk-weary feet. Taipei has the extraordinary Yangmingshan National Park (pictured), replete with cherry-blossom trees, walking trails and hot springs.

These are just a few to wet your whistle. Do tweet us your favourites @DestinationMO. We look forward to walking through March with you!
