Naturally Better

One of our guiding principles at Mandarin Oriental is ‘Acting with responsibility’, which we strive to achieve through our Naturally Better plan. We’re on a journey to make things Naturally Better for the planet, for communities, and for you. As well as embracing and putting into practice our global sustainability initiatives, such as eliminating single-use plastic by March 2021, here at Mandarin Oriental, Boston we also have our own local initiatives to make sure we play our part in making your stay more sustainable.

For the planet


We have implemented a number of measures across our hotel which align with our group-wide policy of eliminating single-use plastic by March 2021. This includes switching to disposable food containers, removing plastic straws and replacing plastic bottles in our spa with water dispensers which offer a selection of infused waters and compostable cups. A Purezza Premium Chilled and Sparkling Water system also provides guests with filtrated water in sustainable glass bottles to save an estimated 500 plastic bottles per day.

As well as using LED retrofit lights to significantly reduce energy consumption, Mandarin Oriental, Boston also takes part in Earth Hour each year by turning off all-non-essential lights on the designated date.

We’ve introduced sustainability preferences to Fans of M.O. members so you can opt into our linen and towel reuse programme to minimise laundry volume.

As part of our Clean The World program, soap and bottled amenities from guest rooms are regularly recycled.

To turn waste into reusable materials, we’re also working with Nespresso to repurpose aluminium capsules from our guest rooms, restaurants and in-room dining.

In our guest rooms you’ll find 100% USA Pima yarn bed linen and RS combed pile bath linen provided by Quivera Hospitality. Air-jet looms and eco-friendly finishing techniques give our products a life expectancy that is double the industry average, enabling production facilities to significantly reduce chemical, water and electricity usage.

For communities


Our colleagues are committed to working with local organisations to make a difference. Our FANtastic Match charity partner, Franciscan Children’s, has served children and adolescents with complex medical, mental health and educational needs since 1949, and we contribute through regular fundraising and volunteering. Our other charity partner, MSPCA-Angell, is a non-profit organisation that protects animals, relieves their suffering, advances their health and welfare and prevents cruelty. For every Puppy Love package booked through the hotel, a percentage of proceeds support the MSPCA, and we act as a drop-off location for the Annual Catsgiving Food Drive which collected 8,516 meals in 2019. Our colleagues also volunteer at MSPCA Nevins Farm.

We’ve worked with Emerald Necklace Conservancy, Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and Women’s Lunch Place on a number of community-based events. Our colleagues also take the initiative by organising annual beach clean-ups, sustainability fairs and Earth Day activities.

We believe in holistic wellness, which is why we offer a range of treatments and facilities to help guests nurture body and mind. This includes everything from our spa’s Digital Wellness Escape and Device-Free Wellness Retreat to combat stress, as well as private yoga sessions.
