We are deeply saddened at the loss of our beloved fan, Barry Humphries. Both Barry and Dame Edna were wonderfully supportive members of Mandarin Oriental, and we will remember them for their warmth, humour and love of travel. They will be greatly missed.
As a bastion of discernment, Dame Edna Everage always demanded the best.
Created by Australian comedian Barry Humphries in 1955, Dame Edna adored Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok for its close proximity to the lively Chao Phraya River, whilst Barry preferred Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong for its spectacular views over the harbour.
In 2000, Dame Edna appeared on Broadway with The Royal Tour and received a Tony for her performance.
Barry Humphries’ and Dame Edna’s charity of choice was Ability Net.
Photographed and filmed by the late, great celebrity photographer Sir Patrick Lichfield.
