Naturally Better

One of our guiding principles at Mandarin Oriental is ‘Acting with responsibility’, which we strive to achieve through our Naturally Better plan. We’re on a journey to make things Naturally Better for the planet, for communities, and for you. As well as embracing and putting into practice our global sustainability initiatives, such as eliminating single-use plastic by March 2021, here at Mandarin Oriental, Macau we also have our own local initiatives to make sure we play our part in making your stay more sustainable.

For the planet

We have implemented several measures across our hotel which align with our group-wide policy of eliminating single-use plastic by March 2021. In support of the Group’s commitment to the reduction of plastics, we introduced Nordaq, Sweden’s leading freshwater filtration system throughout the hotel. Nordaq water is bottled on-site using local water which is purified as it passes through a patented filter system. This system eliminated the need for single-use plastic bottles and reduces carbon emissions generated by the transportion of bottles.

As part of our commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle, we partnered with Clean the World to give discarded hand soaps a second life. Clean the World redistributes soaps and other hotel amenities to some of the most vulnerable communities in the world.

Another example of how we recycle is by repurposing used coffee grounds as fertilizer for plants and landscaping around the Hotel. Extending this impact beyond the hotel walls, colleagues have also been taking coffee grounds home to boost the prosperity of their private gardens.

The Hotel introduced sustainability preferences to all guests, allowing them to opt into our linen and towel reuse programme to reduce laundry volume. These selections can be determined whilst on property or prior to arrival through our Fans of M.O. membership program.

For communities

Our colleagues are committed to working with communities and charitable organisations to make a difference. These includes MINDSET the registered charity established to make a difference in mental health, and Best Buddies Macao Association a non-profit organisation that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and development disabilities (IDD). Additionally, we also take part in yearly beach clean-ups, Movember, the organisation that funds men’s health projects around the world, and offer complimentary wellness classes to the community during the year.

For you

We believe in holistic wellness, which is why we offer a range of treatments and facilities to help guests nurture body and mind. These include everything from our unique spa treatments such as the ‘Macanese Dragon’ and ‘Spice of Portugal’, to private yoga and meditation sessions as well as weekly runs for colleagues, guests and local community members around Macau.
