Naturally Better

One of our guiding principles at Mandarin Oriental is ‘Acting with responsibility’, which we strive to achieve through our Naturally Better plan. We’re on a journey to make things Naturally Better for the planet, for communities, and for you. As well as embracing and putting into practice our global sustainability initiatives, such as eliminating single-use plastic by March 2021, here at Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo we also have our own local initiatives to make sure we play our part in making your stay more sustainable

We have implemented several measures across our hotel which align with our group-wide policy of eliminating single-use plastic by March 2021. In support of the Group’s goal, Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo is striving to reduce supplier packaging, and have made this one of our top priorities and initiatives, with our team constantly researching for new suppliers who have the same goals.

The hotel’s cooperation with 'Clean the World' since 2016 has benefited 11,700 people globally with either hygiene kits or sanitary necessities.

For communities

Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo organises an annual community clean-up with a group of volunteers from the hotel, and visits sites such as at the nearby Nihonbashi Bridge, as well as a monthly garbage pickup on the streets and rivers in the city. The hotel also partners with local orphanages to bring children to enjoy various experiences at the hotel such as a work experiences and festive dining. English-speaking colleagues from Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo annually visit an elementary school in the neighbourhood for an English language exchange activity with students. We share cultural experiences about Japan and other countries to provide students with a better international understanding.

Fans of M.O. members can select their sustainability preferences in their member profile, and guests can easily indicate via an in-room green card, if they wish to reuse their towels and refresh their bed linens less frequently during their stay. By revamping its green card system, Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo has seen an increase in the number of guests opting to support the team’s joint sustainability efforts.
