With two Michelin stars already, Moments restaurant continues to win new awards and new devotees thanks to its creative, fresh and healthy cuisine inspired by Catalan culinary culture. Managed by chef Carme Ruscalleda and her son Raül Balam, Moments offers one of the finest gastronomic experiences in Barcelona. Having won seven Michelin stars for her restaurants in Spain and Tokyo, Ruscalleda is one of the most famous chefs in the country.
Decorated with the beauty of Patricia Urquiola’s exclusive designs, the golden and amber hues of the Moments dining room create a relaxing, magical atmosphere for the enjoyment of the gastronomic experience offered by the a la carte menu and the tasting menu. From its conception, professional technique and the selection of fresh seasonal produce, the exclusive menu prepared by Carme Ruscalleda for Moments presents neo-traditional modern Catalan cuisine. “The quality and freshness of the products we use is vital”, says Ruscalleda. “My goal has always been to offer special, creative, healthy, tasty and well-prepared dishes”.
Our fervent desire is to offer exceptional gastronomy. For this reason, Carme Ruscalleda and her culinary team search for the finest seasonal ingredients every day to create new menus.
You can choose from the a la carte menu, or opt for the tasting menu, which consists of five appetizers, five main courses, five cheeses, two desserts and petit-four confectionery. Furthermore, at midday from Tuesday to Friday, we offer the Club Migdia menu with five appetizers, three main courses, five cheeses, a dessert and the petits-fours.
Thanks to the quality of our products and culinary techniques, our menu also includes the exceptional offer of “VGA” dishes (with Antiaging Gastronomic Value), created in conjunction with Dr. Manuel Sánchez, head of the Antiaging Unit at Clínica Planas, and designed to restore the inner balance of the body and slow down the aging process.
Carme Ruscalleda is the most award-winning female chef in the world, with a total of seven Michelin stars to her name. Self-taught, she opened her first restaurant, the Sant Pau, together with her husband Toni Balam in 1988, in her hometown of Sant Pol de Mar on the Catalan coast. The restaurant has won three Michelin stars since 2006.
Carme Ruscalleda also runs an outpost of the Sant Pau restaurant in Tokyo, and boasts two Michelin stars. She has been honoured with other awards, among which special mention should be made of the Spanish National Gastronomy Prize in 1998, the Creu de Sant Jordi (one of the highest civil distinctions awarded in Catalonia) in 2004 and the Gold Medal of the Parliament of Catalonia in 2013.
Ruscalleda began her collaboration with Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona in 2009.,. At the end of 2012, Moments was awarded two Michelin stars in recognition of its creative neo-traditional Catalan gastronomy.
Raül Balam is head chef at Moments and manages the restaurant with Carme Ruscalleda. Balam began his career at the Sant Pau, where he learnt his refined cooking techniques and soon joined the creative team. From there he moved to Tokyo to prepare the opening of the sister Sant Pau restaurant, which has succeeded in transmitting the philosophy of its natural creative Catalan gastronomy to Japanese gourmets.
After returning from Tokyo, Balam joined Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona in 2009 for the opening of Moments. Balam is in charge of the day-to-day running of the restaurant, and manages the extremely talented and motivated team whose attention to detail ensures that guests clients can fully appreciate the two Michelin stars awarded to Moments restaurant.
We offer a beautiful chef’s table with views of the action in the kitchen. The table, with seating for 15, is situated behind a curtain so that guests can enjoy the service and atmosphere of Moments in greater privacy.
