LED Retrofits and Water Conservation Efforts

Removal of Plastic Water Bottles in The Spa
The Spa and Fitness Center has removed all plastic bottles and is now offering water dispensers with a selection of infused waters and compostable cups.

Annual Participation in Earth Hour
“Earth Hour” is a global energy conservation initiative that provides building owners and managers a prime opportunity to showcase their commitment to energy conservation. The worldwide effort calls for everyone to turn off all non-essential lights on a special date and time usually in March. “Earth Hour,” run by conservation group “The World Wildlife Fund,” is aimed at demonstrating how small actions on a large scale can have a tremendous impact on energy consumption.

Nespresso Capsule Recycling
The hotel currently recycles all of the Nespresso Capsules used in the guestrooms, restaurants and In-Room Dining through Nespresso’s own recycling program.

Reduce, Reuse & Recycle Sustainability Room Cards
Guests have the option of reusing their towels and refreshing their bed linens on the second night of their stay. A room card can be placed on their bed if they prefer their linens changed daily. Fans of M.O. members can also select their sustainability preferences in their member profile.

Franciscan Children’s
Mandarin Oriental, Boston’s FANtastic Match charity partner, Franciscan Children’s has served children and adolescents with complex medical, mental health and educational needs since 1949. They are the only pediatric post-acute provider in New England and tackle the challenges that others can’t or won’t.

Our hotel raises funds for the charity throughout the year through a variety of colleague and guest fundraisers and over USD 10,000 was donated in December 2019. Additionally, colleagues volunteer their time to support creative and interactive programs for the children at the hospital.

Mandarin Oriental, Boston’s other charity partner, MSPCA-Angell is a non-profit organization that protects animals, relieves their suffering, advances their health and welfare and prevents cruelty.

The hotel supports the MSPCA by donating a percentage of proceeds for every “Puppy Love” package booked and by providing prize donations for fund raising events. The hotel also acts as a drop-off location for the MSPCA’s Annual Catsgiving Food Drive which collected 8,516 cat meals in 2019. Hotel colleagues also volunteer at MSPCA Nevins Farm.

Eliminate All Single Use Plastic
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has pledged to eliminate all single-use plastic, across its entire portfolio of luxury hotels, by the end of March 2021. With the removal of plastic straws and switching to sustainable disposable containers, Mandarin Oriental, Boston is actively working to meet this goal.

Removal of Plastic Water Bottles in Guestrooms
The hotel will soon be using the Purezza Premium Chilled and Sparkling Water System to provide guests with filtrated water in sustainable glass bottles in their guestroom. This will save an estimated 500 plastic bottles being used and discarded per day.
