Since 1876, travellers have journeyed along the River of Kings to the legendary Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok. A haven of calm on its banks, the hotel has long been a truly remarkable place, knowing Bangkok as intimately as it knows its guests. It was Thailand's first luxury hotel, the first to open on the majestic river, the first to introduce a jazz bar, and the first to offer guests the sanctuary of a hotel spa.

The Heart of Hospitality: The Lobby
Where timeless elegance meets warm welcome. This iconic space has greeted guests for decades, embodying the spirit of the hotel and setting the tone for every unforgettable stay. The new giant bells, crafted from hand-forged brass and 2,460 Bohemian crystals, hang beside the original teak bells, with Bodhi-leaf motifs echoed in the hand-woven carpets.

A Legacy in Silk: Jim Thompson
Thai silk tycoon Jim Thompson, a joint owner of the hotel from 1946 to 1967, continues to inspire its design. In the 2019 River Wing renovation, 189 of 294 fabrics chosen by Jeffrey Wilkes were sourced from Jim Thompson, enriching rooms and suites with his enduring legacy.

A Canvas of Culture: The Verandah
The Verandah now features a remarkable 17-metre hand-painted mural by Thai artists Anusak Paowpusri and Manussanun Wongrianthai. Created using traditional temple techniques over four months, it depicts indigenous flora and fauna in a chalky patina finish. The mural also inspired Mike White, creator of the award-winning series, during his stay in 2023.
