London’s best new spa treatments

Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London has reopened its wellness facilities, revealing a gleaming new (and enlarged) spa. The luxury underground labyrinth now houses 13 sumptuous treatment rooms, an amethyst crystal steam room, a sanarium and a vitality pool, but it’s not just a soothing sanctuary for pampering. New partnerships with innovative and holistic brands actively encourage guests to make positive lifestyle changes beyond the cosy cocoon of the therapy room. From oxygen-boosting facials to digital detoxes, here are six new treatments to help kick-start those all-important wellness resolutions

Nescens

Nescens 3-In-1 Slimming, Shaping and Anti-Cellulite Treatment

Best for… cheating your way to your ideal body
A new partner for The Spa, this multi-tasking miracle from Swiss skincare brand Nescens promises instant inch-loss with minimum effort (on your part, at least). Using both manual pummelling techniques and a clever G5 machine – which provides a much deeper, mechanical massage than any therapist ever could – it simultaneously eliminates toxins, relieves tension, and reduces the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite. The cryogenic wrap finale may sound terrifying, but the sub-zero swaddle helps to tighten and tone by stimulating circulation and giving skin a boost of oxygen.

Asante

Asanté Traditional Chinese Medicine consultations and treatments

Best for… spiritual healing
Asanté’s philosophy is rooted in the holistic healing of ancient Chinese medicine – so it’s less focused on scientific lotions and potions, and more about balancing your yin and yang. The journey begins with an expert consultation (including the option to meet Asanté’s founder, Professor Ke) to unearth the root of any ailment, from skin irritations to insomnia, and devise a tailored treatment plan. Stretching massages, acupuncture, breathing techniques, herbal remedies and meditation are just some of the methods that could be used to reboot your mind, body and soul.

Bastien Gonzalez

Bastien Gonzalez Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio pedicure

Best for… happy feet
The French podiatrist – who has tended to the talons of Gwyneth Paltrow and Naomi Campbell – has chosen Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London to open his first and only studio in the UK. Eschewing the typical soak, scrub and polish routine, the brand’s unique ‘dry’ pedicures are as much about tackling foot health as they are about cosmetic beauty (the clue is in the ‘cure’ part of the name). But it doesn’t lack the luxe factor, using diamond-dust-tipped drills, mother-of-pearl creams and a chamois leather buff to give nails a naturally beautiful shine. Bonus points for the relaxing foot and leg massage at the end, which does as much to rejuvenate your mood as it does your feet.

Digital Wellness

Digital Wellness Escape

Best for… unplugging
Squeezing stress balls and colouring in are just the first step in clearing mind fog on this digital detox. A series of massages and stretches also concentrate on relaxing parts of the body that suffer the most from the dreaded laptop ‘hunch’ – think arms, neck, head, spine and feet – while mindful breathing exercises encourage modern road warriors to really recalibrate.  Naturally, you’re encouraged to leave your phone in your locker, but if you really can’t bear to disconnect, therapists can place a special black shungite stone on your device to block any negative electromagnetic radiation during the treatment.

Linda Meredith

Linda Meredith Oxygen Treatment

Best for… beating jet lag
Celebrity skin care brand Linda Meredith now offers a swifter version of its results-driven facials in The Spa’s brand-new express treatment rooms – ideal for those making a flying visit to the capital. A vitamin-rich hyaluronic serum is applied to the face and neck, accompanied by an invigorating flow of oxygen, which helps to restore the dehydrating effects of air travel in just 25 minutes. The treatment rooms are also conveniently situated closer to the reception, meaning you can easily nip in and out between business meetings.

Tian Quan

Tian Quan

Best for… head-to-toe pampering
Modelled on an ancient Chinese bathing ceremony that uses steam to reduce stress and eliminate toxins, The Spa’s new Rasul water temple is at the heart of its show-stopping Oriental Suite. Honeymooners, take note: the restorative treatments here are designed for two and, at around three hours long, are the ultimate indulgence. For this particular ritual, guests are scrubbed and lathered in a rich, healing mud before relaxing in the serene mosaic-tiled steam room, followed by a personalised 90-minute body massage based on their nature element (fire, water, air or earth), a super-hydrating facial, and foot bath with real pearls at the bottom. Bliss.
