Appealing to both visitors and locals, Amity & Commerce is a unique American Bistro and Bar with international flair. Curated signature dishes rotate daily to complement the delicious modern mainstays, which form the backbone of a menu that feels both bold and familiar.

Located just a stone’s throw from the District’s emerging Southwest Waterfront and the iconic Jefferson Memorial, Amity & Commerce features soaring ceilings and a relaxed, yet lively atmosphere. Diners may choose to sit at the 20’ wood-topped Commerce bar, a comfortable table in the Amity dining room, or at one of our communal tables.

Amity & Commerce’s contemporary menu is best enjoyed paired with a hand-crafted cocktail, local brew or wine chosen from our highly curated list. Whatever the time of day guests can also choose items from our Take-Away counter to enjoy whilst on the move or at home with friends.

About Our Name
Inspired by our proximity to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Amity & Commerce draws inspiration from the role diplomacy has played in the building and continued prosperity of the United States of America. The Treaty of Amity and Commerce between the United States and France was ratified by the Continental Congress in 1778 after being negotiated by Benjamin Franklin and John Adams, forming the country’s first alliance. Later, Congress would name Thomas Jefferson, the former US Ambassador to France, the country’s first (and only) Minister Plenipotentiary for Negotiating Treaties of Amity and Commerce.
